Recently, as one may have noticed, there is a new face in the halls of Hastings High. That face is Officer Keyle Alcorn, our new school resource officer (SRO).
Officer Alcorn is relatively new to the Hastings Police Department, having been with them since August 2018, and only working in the school for about 6 weeks.
Before working with Hastings Police Department, Officer Alcorn used to be an elementary school teacher. This seemed to be a big part of the reason that becoming an SRO appealed to him.
“What drew me to teaching was that I enjoyed being around students, but I didn’t enjoy teaching anymore, so when the SRO position came open I applied for it because I missed the relationships and bonds with students,” Alcorn said.
The SRO position that he has filled is evidently a good fit for Officer Alcorn.
“It’s a lot bigger than what I am used to, but I like this school a lot,” Alcorn Said.
It is evident that Alcorn enjoys working here, and would like to stay here as long as they allow him to
For those that do not know, Officer Alcorn is a police officer that the Hastings Police Department keeps at the high school for our safety. His office is located downstairs inside the main office.
