It goes without saying that parking is an issue at HHS. The recent loss of a small teacher parking lot due to ongoing construction has added to the loss of student parking. Students that normally park in the west parking lot have been forced to find new spots for their cars as teachers have been forced to use student parking.
But fewer spots aren’t the only problem.
“The Parking at HHS is horrible. I have to park my car the church parking lot across the street because students here are bad parkers,” senior Kayli Johnson said.
Work room secretary Sharon Thomas agrees that the parking lot needs work.
“Parking should be better marked so students know where to park. There are some kids who park in the handicapped spots, which I think is bad. It should get better when they open up the other east parking lot when the construction is done,” Thomas said.
HHS students have the same complaints: others are just bad parkers, teachers are taking spots in the east parking, no markings on the handicapped spots, unidentifiable teacher spots and high levels of traffic in the lots. It seems we have a lot of parking lot problems.
“Some people just don’t know how to park, and that’s their problem,” senior Tania Hernandez said.
But other students have noticed some improvement as the year has progressed.
“It has gotten a lot better since they painted the lines,” senior Daniel Rousseau said.
Principal Jay Opperman believes things might get better before the end of the school year.
“I imagine it [east parking lot] will be done sometime around when the new science wing opens. For the kids frustrated with the parking, there are plenty of spots on the west side of the building. It may not be their desired parking spot but there are spots available,” Opperman said
