“I really enjoy leading the Pledge because I feel like it is something that is really important,” senior Pablo Morales said. Every school day starts out with students saying the Pledge of Allegiance with senior Morales.
He got started doing the pledge almost every morning when assistant principal Jay Opperman approached student council members saying it was now required to read the Pledge over the intercom every morning. Opperman said he would really appreciate it if they were the ones to do it because they had showed interest in previously doing it every Monday.
Eager, Morales volunteered himself for the position and has does it most days, even though it makes him late to his second period class. He doesn’t mind as long as he isn’t going to be late for something important like a time consuming test or a quiz. So when Morales is busy preparing for tests the responsibility of reading the pledge is left up to junior Nolan Laux or a member of the faculty.
“I really think there should be a system as to who does it, like different groups from around school would do it for a week because it is everybody’s responsibility,” Morales said.
