The Hastings Police Department has decided to start selling pink police patches, otherwise known as the “Pink Patch Project 2018.” According to their Facebook post, they will be joining 300 agencies across the country and 14 agencies throughout Nebraska.
The money raised will go to the Morrison Cancer Center’s, from the Heart Fund. This fund started due to the increased need patients had for resources such as gas, transportation to treatment, and groceries for their families.
Donations are used to assist cancer patients with things they need at the moment including gas vouchers, assistance paying their medical bills, and much more. According to the police department, since the fund was created in 2010, they have assisted patients with over $38,000 in needs.
“At the same time we are also having logos, and pink patches, and breast cancer ribbons placed onto our fleet of police cars,” said Chief Adam Story.
“This is giving us the opportunity to give back to our community in a different way than we normally do,” said Captain Raelee Van Winkle
The police officers have the choice to wear pink patches on their uniforms throughout the month of October. The police department hopes to do this again in the future.
Patches can be purchased during business hours (8am-5pm) from the lobby of the Hastings Police Department located at 317 S. Burlington Avenue, Hastings, NE, for a donation price of $10 per patch! The patches will be sold until they run out, or until the end of October.
