Rob Kerr is a social studies teacher at Hastings High School. He teaches many different courses including Nebraska History and European History. His Nebraska History course focuses on animal hide paintings by the Pawnee Tribe. It compares pictures of tribes before and after Europeans come and settle in Nebraska, utilizing original homestead claims.
The Nebraska History course really stood out to many judges around the state and on March 4, 2019, Kerr received the History Nebraska Excellence in Teaching award. The award nominates teachers in Nebraska History who use primary sources such as artifacts and their history.
“I didn’t know it existed until my wife told me she nominated me for it, said Kerr.
This award nominated a select few teachers from all over Nebraska from multiple grades. His reaction was like anybody else’s after they win an award.
“I was surprised! There are a lot of other history teachers and didn’t think they’d pick me,” said Kerr.
