From September 11-15, Hastings High School celebrated its spirit week leading up to the homecoming dance on Saturday, September 16. That week, students participated in Hawaiian, twin, fraternity/sorority, jersey, and Tiger Pride themes.
“My favorite theme was frat because I usually dress like that everyday!” senior Thomas Kerr said.
Other members of the student body agreed with Kerr’s saying that fraternity/sorority was their favorite theme. On that day, students wore clothes that looked like stereotypical college students.
“I went frat. I wore a blue button up shirt, khaki shorts, white Nike socks, and white converse” freshman Sophie Cerveny said.
Some of the themes weren’t as easy to do, resulting in some students choosing to not participate in them.
“I didn’t do twin day because I didn’t have a lot of the same clothes with the person I wanted to twin with” sophomore Kate Delaney said.
Other students also had problems trying to find clothes to wear.
“I tried to do all of the themes. The one I probably had the least stuff to wear for was Tiger Pride. I just wore a tiger t-shirt and jeans” Cerveny said.
Students generally thought spirit week was a success, but they had some ideas for themes in the future.
“A theme for the future that I think our school should do is American/red, white, and blue” Delaney said. Cerveny also agreed with her idea of a U.S.A. theme.
Spirit week can fail to be successful if students don’t participate. However, this didn’t seem to be a problem this year.
“I had a fun experience. I loved seeing everybody else showing their spirit,” Kerr said.
While 2018’s spirit week is quite a while away, students are already excited to show their Tiger Pride again.
“Overall, I had fun during spirit week and can’t wait for it next year,” Cerveny said.
