Spring sports are quickly approaching. Athletes and coaches are preparing and sharing their excitement and concern for the upcoming seasons.
Junior Haylee OāConnell is a returning soccer player.
āSoccer season always brings excitement for me because I love the sport and with the season comes good weather and friendships with the other members of the team,ā Ā OāConnell said, āAll of the many memories made from the season are so fun and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.ā
The girls team has high hopes to make it to state this year.
āIt is always a concern to get to state and I have not had the opportunity to experience state myself yet and I would really like to,ā OāConnell said.
Another junior, Thomas Kerr, is equally excited for the track season.
āThis year I will be running the mile, two mile, and maybe the 800 if I have to,ā Kerr said.
This is Kerrās third year running track.
āI run track because I get to do what I love with some of my friends, show myself that all my hard work pays off, and set some PRs and hopefully make it to state,ā Kerr said.
Sophomore Chyna Delker is running track for the second year.
āI run track because when you join a sport you make closer friends because you go through hard workouts, victories, and losses together as a team,ā Delker said.
Delker says she will either run the 1600 or the 3200 meter race.
āMy favorite part of track is the bus rides. We sing and laugh, and it is just a really fun time,ā Delker said.
The boys soccer team have high goals as well. They hope to win districts and make it to state.
āI play to stay in shape and itās really fun because lots of my friends do it. We always have a good time,ā said senior Raul Andrades.
Junior Morgan Long is entering her third year of tennis.
āāIām excited. It should be a fun year. There are a lot of great girls with great attitudes.ā Long said.
Coach Bryan Vetter is ready for another season of golf. Working with athletes, watching them develop over a 4-year-span, and being outdoors is Vetterās favorite part about coaching golf.
āMy goals for the team this season is that our team makes significant improvements from beginning of season to the end, whatever that looks like. I also hope our golfers come to practice with the intention of improving their games every day. Hopefully if we do those things we can have an opportunity to qualify for the Class B state tournament as a team,ā said Vetter.
Also, HHS is embarking on the journey of our first ever boys baseball team this spring.
āI think itās really exciting, because now, we donāt just have the opportunity to play in the summer, but also in the spring. I think itās good to represent your school as much as you can, so this is a great way to do that,ā said junior Bryant Warrick.
The Tigers are ready for whatever these spring seasons have in store.
