This year the Hastings swim team took ten swimmers to state, an all time high since around 2009. Hastings also had its first state medalist since 2011, Tim Thies.
On the girls side the 200 Medley and 400 Free relays qualified for state. Along with Senior Katie Fast qualifying individually in the 100 free and 100 back.
On the Boys side the 200 Medley and 400 Free relays also made it. Senior Johan Vizoso qualified individually in the 100 Back. Along with junior Tim Thies qualifying in both the 200 free and 100 free.
The girls’ 200 Medley relay ended up placing 25th, along with the 400 Free Relay dropping almost seven seconds and placing 23rd. Both relays had outstanding performances.
“The girls relay swam their best swims of the season making it a fun and exciting relay,” Head Coach Charles Scribner said.
Katie Fast ended up placing 19th in the 100 Free just .08 of a second away from being second alternate for finals. Fast also ended up placing 27th in the 100 back ending her senior year with a bang.
“The 100 free went beyond well. I cut half a second in it and moved up 8 spots from last year. The 100 back wasn’t my best, but I was happy the outcome in the end because it was my second best time. I was just proud to be able to compete at state in my individual events for my team, my coach, and myself. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my senior year,” Fast said.
The boys relays also exceeded their expectations. The boys 200 Medley Relay ended up placing 21st along with the 400 Free relay placing 21st as well.
“The boys relay took off almost 6.7 seconds dropping more time than any other relay team competing at state,” Scribner said.
Junior Tim Thies was the star of the show, placing 6th in the 200 free and 7th in the 100 free.
“It felt awesome competing at state like I did, last year I didn’t even make it back to finals and now here I was placing at state,” Thies said.
Overall it was a great way to end the season for the Tigers. Many swimmers are already looking forward to next season and seeing what it brings.
