Student Council is an organization conducted by student leaders and supervised by adult sponsors. The purpose of Student Council is to provide leadership and to serve the student body, the school, and the community. Stuco is renowned for providing activities for students to participate in, like school dances, pumpkin painting, and fundraisers.
This year is no different. One of the activities planned for October is a movie night. Student council screened Hocus Pocus, a 1993 American comedy fantasy film about a trio of witches wha are inadvertently resurrected by a cynical teenager, his younger sister and his girlfriend in the small town of Salem, Massachusetts.
“We’ve had a movie night for the past few years and it’s always fun. It’s free, all you have to do is show up. We like doing this event because everyone can participate,” senior council member Ashley Craig said.
The movie was held in the South gym at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 30th. Attending the movie is free and Stuco will be selling popcorn and maybe hot chocolate. The proceeds of these concessions will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Another event Stuco is hosting is a Teacher-Student Dodgeball Tournament. Teachers from around the building will be on one team. Students pay to get in and they get a raffle ticket, which will help decide who gets to play each round. This event will Happen November fifth, after school in the gym. The proceeds from this event will also go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Most of student council’s fundraisers are for this organization. Student council has donated $2,000 thanks to all the students that participated in events.
