On October 5, the Hastings High student council will be having a canned food drive to help with the local food pantries in Hastings for Student Council’s community service project this month. It will be held during the final home football game at Hastings College from 6:15 to 7:30 “p.m”
“I initially came up with the idea, but Chyna (Delker) and the rest of the council have put in a lot of work to help organize this event,” senior student council member Dawson Jacobus said.
The student council has many goals for how the food drive will turn out.
“We hope to get canned food for local food pantries around Hastings,” Jacobus said.
Student councils does not have a specific goal but hopes to obtain as many canned foods and non-perishable items.
“Anything counts any amount of cans is a goal,” junior Erika Hernandez said.
As for public relations, the council has delegated other members to help advertise the event.
“Me Isabel and Grace are volunteering to collect them I am volunteering to put them in my car to transport them back to the high school monday morning,” junior student council member, Hernandez said.
Hastings High student council has high hopes for the canned food drive.
“I think people will bring lots of canned food, and it will be a successful community service project,” Jacobus said.
Student council wants many people to come and enjoy the game, but they also want as many donations as they can get.
“Bring canned food to the football game!” Jacobus said.
