The “hhs.sleeping_pagee” has gained popularity getting almost 400 followers on Instagram.
Students’ privacy has been greatly affected by Instagram accounts that have been posting pictures of people without their consent.
The Instagram pages; “hhs.sleeping_pagee”, “hhs.bad_parking__”, and “hhs_bathroom_shoes4200” have been on the rise since early in December. These pages have collected over 50 posts of students sleeping in class, in the parking lot, and pictures of their feet in the bathroom. Many students are taking pictures of anyone they see doing these things and sharing them with these accounts where they are being posted.
“It can affect people because it can be a form of bullying, and some people want to keep privacy by staying off of Instagram,” sophomore Taylor Delaney said.
Many people do not want to be on social media and these pages are posting pictures of people for everyone to see.
“This could be dangerous as some teens have to stay off Instagram for personal reasons,” Delaney said.
Many people are not allowed to have social media or want to stay off of these types of platforms because of reasons like cyberbullying.
“My opinion on the account that I was posted on was that it was creepy, disgusting, and invaded the privacy that you think you get when in a bathroom stall,” an Anonymous Source said.
These posts can invade someone’s personal space and how someone who was posted on one of these accounts feels about this. Nebraska law provides the right to privacy and allows citizens to sue if that right is violated.
“I don’t know why anyone would want to waste their time posting pictures of people when they could easily be caught and get into a lot of trouble for something they could’ve avoided,” junior Alyssa Breckner said.
The HHS handbook states that any use of a device capable of taking pictures is used in a locker room, restroom, private area, or classroom will result in suspension or expulsion. HHS is continually investigating leads in hopes to shut down these accounts.
“This can also make people very self-conscious and scared to lay their head down in class or simply go to the bathroom without worrying about people taking embarrassing pictures of them and posting them for everyone to see,” Breckner said.
