President Donald Trump recently revoked the Golden State Warriors’ invitation to the White House due to the team’s failure to accept in a timely manner. President Trump’s decision sparked a controversy on the popular social media platform Twitter.
While this issue between the President and the Warriors was a nationwide controversy, students at Hastings High became opinionated about this topic as well.
“I agree with President Trump because if he feels that the Warriors aren’t respectful enough to receive an invitation to the White House then they shouldn’t receive an invitation to the White House,” sophomore Jonathan Cafferty said.
Contrary to Cafferty, senior Seth Simonson feels Curry and the Golden State Warriors were justified in their failure to respond to the invitation.
“I agree with the Golden State Warriors because almost all of them are African Americans and don’t support Donald Trump because of the comments he’s made in the past so I think it’s their right to boycott the white house if the majority of them view him as corrupt,” Simonsen said.
Other students, such as junior Alex Swoboda, disagree with the politicization of the whole affair.
“I can see how there are some things that Trump has said or done that might be a little controversial but going to the White House is about celebrating the championship they just won not the about politics,” Swoboda said.
Whether you agree with President Trump’s decision or not, it appears as if this timeless American tradition will not be continued in 2017.
