‘Twas the night before finals and all through the house, not a textbook was open, not even some notes.
With the school year quickly coming to a close, the motivation of most Hastings High students is dwindling.
“I know how important it is to study so that my grades stay good, but all I can think about is summer,” sophomore Graciella Lopez said.
There are only 14 school days left for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, and the seniors will be leaving in eight days. The thought of liberation and sleeping in tends to make students lazy. However, one sophomore has a simple solution to curb her laziness.
“Honestly, I just don’t think about summer. I know it will come eventually, so I just tell myself to work on my grades right now,” sophomore Mytien Thai said.
Thai and lopez both have a trick to studying. They like to eat a snack that they enjoy while working on homework, so that way, they don’t dread the time of day when they need to crack open the textbooks.
“My favorite food is pretzels, so sometimes it helps to have a few pretzels to eat. It keeps me focused,” Lopez said.
Grades are guaranteed to drop if students slack off in class, too.
“I always get a lot of sleep. I usually go to bed before 11, so I’m not too tired in the morning,” Thai said.
Studies have shown that it is beneficial for teenagers to have the maximum amount of sleep possible. In some cases, hitting the sack early rather than cramming before a test will turn out more positive in the end.
So if visions of swimming, bonfires, and hot July days are dancing in a student’s head, remember to keep focused because summer will be here before anyone knows it.
