Have you ever had an idea for a club or school activity? Ever thought of going to a school administrator or teacher to get it started? Most people do, but very few act on their ideas. Well senior Danny Lugenbeel did, and his story is certainly one of success.
Since the club’s formation last year, they have seen many members come and go. Some have been around for quite a while, like senior Levi Acosta.
“I joined almost right away when it started last year because it sounded fun. I hadn’t been in any clubs yet and it seemed simple enough. Plus the person running it was someone I was friends with!”
And some, like sophomore Donovan Hemphill, have just begun to discover this new interest.
“I went to Table Top Club for the first time this week. I saw the posters around school and thought it looked like something I would have fun doing.”
While the attendees may change, their reasons for being there do not. Most of them join because they have a love of fun board games and are excited for an opportunity to get to share them with peers. Now these aren’t just your everyday UNO cards and Monopoly boards, oh no, the Table Top Club is better than that. For the meeting on November 6th they broke out Pandemic, a game in which four diseases are spreading across the world and the players must work together before a game-ending disaster occurs, and Munchkin, according to the World of Munchkin website “Munchkin is the mega-hit card game about dungeon adventure . . . with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff. You and your friends compete to kill monsters and grab magic items.” Like I said, not your grandma’s board games.
“We have plenty of games here and anything we don’t have we could probably grab from the library!” Acosta said.
Its even hard for some students to pick a favorite.
“It’s hard to say whether or not I have a favorite game, we just play a bunch of random and different games every week.” said freshman Kai Anderson.
The Table Top Club is open to anyone who is interested in hanging out and having a good time playing board and card games. You don’t have to know how to play any of the games, they are able and willing to teach you! So grab some snacks, a friend, and a winning attitude and head to Table Top Club every Thursday after school in room 222.
“Definitely join because it’s a lot of fun! We could always do with more people. More people equals more fun, right?” Anderson said.
