On Tuesday May 3rd, the girls soccer team played their first subdistricts game against Kearney Catholic winning 1-0.
The team was originally supposed to play their first subdistrict game on Monday May 2nd but due to weather conditions the game was canceled. However, on Tuesday the team headed to Grand Island to play two 40-minute halves for their game but only scoring once in the first half of the game.
“It was really exciting and I was super proud of everyone on the team. We were really happy and it felt nice to score,” junior Kara Kennard said.
The team did not go into overtime and received a couple penalties due to pushing and fouls throughout the game, however, this did not discourage the players to keep playing throughout the rest of the game.
“I felt confident in our team and that everyone was going to do their job,” sophomore Tracey Rameriz said.
Nizel Epinoza scored the first and only goal of the game from both teams during the first half of the game. Neither one of the teams scored any other goals in the second half of the game and rest of the game.
“We all started screaming and jumping up and down, and it was a really great moment for our team. We all were just so happy we scored. This helped us stay motivated the rest of the game,” sophomore Jake Braun said.
Besides the normal falls and scrapes during soccer games, there were no major injuries that took place on the field. Although the weather was cold, the team continued to keep preparing and practicing for the end of the spring soccer season.
“There’s always lots to improve but we can only learn from our mistakes and take them into our next games,” goalie and sophomore Jessalyn Quintero said.
The team also took on Grand Island Northwest at 4:30 in Grand Island on Wednesday May 6th playing their second districts game. Furthermore, they will be playing their last game of the season at 11:00 at Norris High School on Saturday May 7th.
“Its been a long and tough season with its ups and downs but, we are ready to get some revenge and kick some butt for these last few games!” Braun said.
