“Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power,” Donald Trump said during the 2017 Inaugural Address. Four years ago around this time, former President Donald Trump was being sworn into office. The Inauguration of Joseph Biden and Kamala Harris took place January 20th, with just around 200,000 socially distanced guests in attendance.
Newly appointed Vice President Harris was sworn in first by Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor. Harris is the first woman, and black Asian-American to become vice president. John Roberts swore in Biden shortly after.
U.S. senator, Amy Klobuchar, was the first to introduce Biden as president before his initial speech. Biden denounced extremism, domestic terrorism, and white supremacy in response to the previous capitol protest. Biden also spoke about hopes and ambitions to reunite the country despite its current situation.
President Biden’s first 100 days in office began January 21st. His plan consists of slowing the spread of COVID-19, administering the vaccine to all Americans, improving the economy, and solving racial issues.
“This is a great nation. We are good people. And over the centuries, through storm and strife, in peace and in war, we’ve come so far. But we still have far to go,” President Biden said.
