The coronavirus is a disease outbreak that first started in Wuhan, China. Since then the Coronavirus has slowly spread across the world affecting nations worldwide. As of now, there have been 45,000 reported cases and 1,000 deaths. In America, there have been six reported cases of the Coronavirus.
Even the small state of Nebraska is doing its part in order to stop the spread of this outbreak. Over 1,000 Americans are being evacuated from China and being quarantined in Ashland, Nebraska. These people will be housed in the National Guard’s Camp Ashland training site. From there they will be monitored for signs of the virus. One specific plane is taking them to Eppley Airfield containing passengers who have been living in the area isolated by the Chinese government.
These people are expected to arrive healthily but will be watched upon to see if they get any symptoms. If the passengers showed any sign of having the Coronavirus they wouldn’t have been allowed to fly. If someone develops symptoms, they will be moved to UNMC and assigned to either the 20-bed quarantine section or, if warranted, the ultra-secure bio-containment unit. There is no reason to be afraid of these people being quarantined in Nebraska. for more information about the Coronavirus visit the CDC’s website https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/index.html
