Cat Yablonovsky, a child development, intro to design, fashion design, and interior design teacher, is teaching at Hastings Senior High School for the first time.
”This is her first year teaching these types of classes.” said Yablonovsky.
Before she went on the path of teaching, she took a different path doing child and family studies so she could be a therapist. After that, she thought teaching was more of her passion and became a teacher.
“I remember in high school, loving those classes,” Yablonovsky said. “I always wanted to be a teacher even in like elementary school but for whatever reason I took another path and of course ended up teaching.”
Before Yablonovsky came to the high school, she taught English, psychology, and mythology. If she couldn’t teach the current classes that she is teaching now she would teach the classes she taught at her old school.
“I had a lot of fun teaching those classes at my old school,” said Yablonovsky.
She came to teach at the high school because HHS offered her dream teaching job Also, she drove through Hastings a couple of times before and believed it was a “nice, friendly place.
”She has already built many connections with the teachers at the high school.” said Yablonovsky.
Yablonovsky worked at Frenley High School before she came to Hastings High School, and they did have a professional learning environment and collaboration there. “I like the collaboration and community feel between the teachers,” Yablonovsky said. Her favorite thing about the High school is that she feels like “they get along and go along with the procedures and things.”
In the first semester, she is teaching the classes that were stated above. In the second semester, she is teaching fashion design, interior design, sewing, parents and families, and medical terminology.
“I am definitely more than a human relationships kind of person, I just get thrown into the swing of things,” Yablonovsky said.
This year she would like to try out the “new” Tiger Lounge with some of her classes. She also has a couple of teenage girls who are also new to the high school, but she hasn’t taught them yet, though she may be able to at some point.
“So far I am really enjoying the High school, the staff, and the classes I am teaching this year said Yablonovsky.
