The fieldhouse will be a multipurpose room located across from the boy’s locker room. This new room has taken place of the old pool here at Hastings High. It will be used by a variety of sports teams.
Turf is going to be laid down for the football players. If the weather is too extreme in any way then the team will be able to continue practice inside.
“The base thing is that when it’s raining or storming, we can still come in, have a regular practice. It’s just nice that we don’t have to cancel practice. We don’t feel like we lose any days which is nice, and we still accomplish what we need to in that day.” Assistant coach Brian Itzen said.
While the bulk of the practice can be completed, the low ceiling will cause a problem as pass routes cannot be practiced in the room.
Too rainy outside to go on the softball field and take a crack at a few balls? The Fieldhouse will be equipped with batting cages. The girls will be able to swing away to their heart’s content. The room is also big enough for them to throw and catch, work on pitching, and run bases.
Right fielder Chloe Swoboda says. “Not really anything for the outfielders, but the room will be put to good use.”
The nets used for the batting cages will be serving two purposes. Along with keeping balls in the batting area, they will also be keeping golf balls from getting out of control. The golf team will be able to drive balls into the nets.
The athletics here eagerly await the arrival of the new room. Some work has been done to the room, but construction came to a halt in the summer when it needed to become a storage space for renovations to the locker rooms. Flooring was put down to cover the pool, and it served as a storage room during the locker room renovations. The Fieldhouse construction will continue as soon as the school is able to refocus their attention on it.
