For Seniors, it is a very hard point in time to decide what they want to do after school, where they are going to college and if they want to do a sport or not when they get there. I am going through this process myself and I have found it very difficult, even without being in a sport. I had a questions and answers session with four senior athletes, Travis Hartwig, Alex Schmidt, Tonny Nguyen, and Phillip Fisbeck, about their choices for the future. All four of them said that they were planning on going to college.
Q: Where do you want to go and why?
TH: I have thought about a few colleges; Midland is where my brother went, Concordia because it has looked interesting to me, or Nebraska Wesleyan for track and field.
AS: Hastings College, because I have a really great softball scholarship there or Augustana College Sioux Falls, South Dakota, because I have a soccer scholarship there.
TN: UNL because they have the best engineering programs and classes.
PF: Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas because I’ve heard great things about it.
Q: What do you want to go for?
TH: I want to go to become a history teacher because I have always loved history and would like to teach others about it.
AS & PF: “I want to be a physical therapist because I like dealing with the human body and I’ve had injuries of my own through sports and I would love to help others like me trying to get to play again or helping with their activity.” “Physical Therapy because of personal experience i’ve had with my shoulder.”
TN: Mechanic engineering.
Q: Any collegiate sports? Why or why not?
TH: Football or track and field because they are my two favorite sports and sports that I am great at.
AS: Softball or soccer because I like these sports.
TN: I probably will do Intramural sports instead of playing for the team because I don’t think I would have time for everything for actual sports.
PF: Though I like baseball, I would not play any sports, because I need to focus on my education.
So these four individuals have a rough idea of what they are going to do after high school but it still is a very hard decision for Seniors to decide which college to go to, and what to go for since it is a huge decision for the rest of your life and would dictate slightly what you will do for the rest of your life.
