JAG is a program that is to help kids and help them succeed in life that is offered at Hastings Senior High.
JAG stands for Jobs For American Graduates. It’s a career readiness program and it’s an elective class where students must show a willingness to be a part of the program. The program has 51 students.
“I have a pretty full class in JAG and it’s easier,” said Brooke Donner.
Recently JAG had their elections in which all the candidates created an information poster, created logos, and either had to make a video or speech for each candidate who was running.
“They got really creative with that and it was very interesting to see what they came up with,” Gretchen said.
The JAG class set up a single-stall voting booth and they received a folder with a ballot in it and picked one person for each position. The winners were Brooke Donner for President, Edgar Valle for Vice, Media Coordinator Juan Millan, Mercedes Traush, and Jayda Garcia secretary of JAG.
“I felt shocked that I had as many votes as I did. I also felt very honored and motivated to do my best for all my peers,” Donner said.
The JAG program does lots of college visits, projects, and community services to help the Hastings community. The program is doing a trick or treat with the theater and the science department for the food pantry here at HHS
“We are planning at least 1 college visit” Senior Donner said.
Not only is Gretchen the teacher of JAG at HHS, this is also her first year at HHS. She wants the kids to learn, grow, have fun and have goals and want them to be successful in life with or without college.
The class touches on lots of topics and valuable lessons. The class does teamwork games and activities.
“I think it’s a good opportunity for kids to learn about themselves,” Ms.Gretchen said.
