Starting high school is an overwhelming experience for any teenager. You have to navigate an unfamiliar school, make new friends and learn about new teachers. After a few days you’ll know the school and you’ll have your friend group, but your teachers are a different story. High school teachers have high expectations for their students because they are trying to prepare them for college.
“Always do your work because if you get behind it’s a little difficult to get caught up,” sophomore Grace Clawson said.
Although these are some big changes, they are nothing you can’t handle. There are many different resources available to help you deal with any problem. Your teachers, counselors, parents, and friends are there to help.
The four years you spend at high school will either be the best or worst four years of your life. It all depends on what you make it. You will gain new freedoms, experiences, and responsibilities.
“I’m most excited about playing volleyball and going out for track. I also can’t wait to meet my new teachers,” eighth grader Cecilia Beahm said.
The best way to attain the best high school experience is to participate in as many activities as possible. Try out for sports, join clubs, and support other clubs and sports that you don’t join. Go to the dances, go to the first home football game.
“Make friends with people in every grade and don’t get on anyone’s bad side. That will definitely help,” freshmen Cambria Collins said. Always try and be nice. If people see you as the nice, polite, respectful kid, you’re more likely to get an opportunity that a less respectful kid would get. It’s also good karma. These are some of the most significant years of your life, make them count for something.
