Matt Geigor is experiencing his first year of teaching at Hastings High School, and so far he enjoys it. Geigor is teaching the science classes Chemistry and Physical Science.
“I was very excited to see an opening here. I had already applied at the middle school and when I got turned down from that I was pretty upset, but looking back I am really glad I didn’t get it because I love teaching here,” Geigor said.
What many people don’t know is Geigor is a Hastings High alumn. One of his fondest memories going to HHS was when he was wrestling. His first wrestling coach in high school was Rod Tickle, and his second coach was Brian Laux.
“My senior year was when I made it to the state tournament for wrestling,” Geigor said.
Now, Geigor coaches wrestling for high school and little kids. Not only does Geigor coach he also teaches high school students about Science.
“I am very excited to start helping more guys (and gals if applicable) work towards their own high school championship,” Geigor said.
For college, Geigor attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and majored in secondary education in broad science. After graduating college, Geigor moved back to Hastings to be closer to his fiance, who supports him in his teaching career.
“My fiance just loves the fact that I have a job! I think she would be happy that I have a job anywhere, just as long as I enjoy it.” Geigor said.
Geigor thinks that it would be a great idea if his students could meet his small family. Including his two dogs that he adopted from Start Over Rover.
“If I can get permission to bring Indy, I would love for the students to meet her! She loves people. I just don’t know how I would get permission to bring in a 90-pound puppy to the school!” Geigor said.
Overall, Geigor is very happy with his place here at Hastings High and is looking forward to many years coming in the future.
“I wouldn’t want to teach anywhere other than here. I love the people I work with and the students I teach,” Geigor said.
