This year, tiger fans are excited to support both girls’ and boys’ basketball and wrestling at Hastings High School.
“I feel extremely confident in the winter sports teams this year, especially after seeing how this year’s football season went,” sophomore Hayden Steppuhn said. “The way the boys and girls basketball teams opened up their seasons with a win made my excitement grow because I can’t wait to see where this season leads them.”
Starting the season with two wins from both basketball teams, the anticipation of fans continues to grow.
“I’ve been playing basketball since the fourth grade, and I am now a sophomore in high school. I am looking forward to watching the boys and girls basketball games progress throughout the season and watching them succeed as players,” sophomore Kaiper Kaiser said.
Apart from girls’ and boys’ basketball, the wrestling team had their first meet against Kearney on November 30th, 2023 which ended with a score of 25-45.
“I haven’t been much into wrestling, but after watching the first meet against Kearney, it made me enjoy the atmosphere of everyone in the gym,” sophomore Kaisley Tillemans said.
Hayden Steppuhn is on the dance team and loves bringing up the energy at different winter sports competitions during her performances at halftime.
“I can’t wait to see where our boys’ basketball and wrestling teams take us when it comes to winning state. As a dancer, I love performing for basketball because of the energy on the court and in the stands, but when I go to wrestling the energy in that gym is like no other,” Steppuhn said.
Many Tiger fans enjoy the thrill winter sports bring to the jungle. Some people have been around winter sports since they were young, which makes them have more support for winter sports.
“As I grew up, I’ve been surrounded by wrestlers my whole life. All of my older cousins, and younger cousins started wrestling at a young age, and my family would always go to their meets and watch them perform. My younger brother wrestles for 2 tuff gyms and it makes me excited to watch him wrestle in the future here at HHS,” Kaiser said.
Tiger fans are excited to watch these teams battle to victory.
“I am excited to see what this season brings us at HHS, and I am proud to say that I am a Tiger,” Tillemans said.
