On Saturday the Tigers took on some of the toughest teams in the state at the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference. The Tigers fought hard and ended up 5th overall with the Girls placing 5th and boys placing 6th with just a 10 point difference between 6th and 4th place. Many swimmers made secondary state cuts along with some automatic state cuts.
“I feel that the times we swam and how we swam was more important than what we placed among the other teams,” Head Coach Charles Scribner said.
With almost every swimmer setting a personal best it was a great day for the Tigers. Along with swimmers getting their best times, many also made secondary state cuts qualifying them for a chance rank among the top 32 in their event and go to state.
Junior Shyann Chitty is one of the many swimmers that got a secondary state qualifying time this weekend at GNAC.
“I feel confident that I’m going to make it to state in my 200 IM because I have the secondary time by almost 6 seconds,” Chitty said.
Some swimmers swam exponentially well. Junior Tim Thies surpassed his expectations of how he would swim on Saturday with getting a sectionals cut qualifying him to swim in Tulsa, Oklahoma the weekend after state.
“I feel more confident after the way I swam on Saturday because it will move me up in the rankings for state,” Thies said.
Individual events weren’t the only things that went well on Saturday. Both girls and boys relays performed very well. Both the boys 200 Medley relay and 400 Free relay got secondary times. Along with the Girls 400 Free relay getting a secondary cut as well.
“With me being able to see all of the girls swim their leg of the relay before I swim mine is such a build up and it pushes me to go even faster,” senior Katie Fast said.
Overall the Tigers performed very well and are ready to compete in the state competition in two weeks.
