For Hastings High, last week meant “#beatAC” posters hung all over the school.
But Adams Central took it to another level by caging a stuffed tiger and setting it on fire.
Unfortunately, that’s how the game played out.
The outcome of the highly anticipated rivalry game on Friday seemed to be uncertain until the fourth quarter, when just a few minutes were left on the clock.
Hastings High’s Tiger football team met their match with their cross-town rival team, the Adams Central Patriots.
“I was worried in the beginning because the Patriots took the lead right away, but then Hastings made an unexpected comeback,” sophomore Stasia Pfeifer said.
The Tigers carried a one point lead of 15 – 14 up until the end of the game, and when Patriot Kyler Wormstadt made a 42-yard touchdown, the fate of a Hastings win was not likely.
Although Wormstadt lead his team to a 22 – 15 victory, Hastings fans are still very proud of their “boys of fall”.
“When everybody in the student section threw their streamers after the first touchdown, it made the players seem so appreciated,” Pfeifer said.
Because Hastings had an enormous amount of support, the Tigers were able to play their hardest.
“It feels so good to know that you have a whole school cheering you on. There can be a lot of pressure on the field sometimes,” sophomore quarterback Vinny Schmidt said
