Some games are more important than the others. When the whole town is in the gym, waiting for high school students to take charge. The cross town school rivalries just make the game more eventful. There’s nothing else quite like it. From the moment the season starts, it consumes you. It’s the one game you must absolutely win.
“When we are up against HHS, I think, it brings out everyone’s school spirit more than usual.” AC sophomore, Rachel Saathoff said.
Every year, every season Hastings High plays Adams Central setting off the rivalry. The gyms and the fields are always packed and the students cheer for their teams with all their might.
“It’s really fun to have those games because everybody knows each other and who they are playing. It brings out student section spirit more than ever.” HHS senior, Adam Florian said.Florian is also the leader of the student spirit group, Tiger Ambush.
Even though it might seem like this may spoil relationships, the students look at it from a different perspective. It’s all in the spirit of learning to win or lose sometimes.
“It gives you the bragging rights against your friends in rival school.”Florian said.
As long as nobody crosses the line and stays respectful of the other team, the games are fun to watch.
