“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
About every two years special education teacher Pete Theoharis chaperones a trip to a historical place.
This year’s trip to Greece and Italy will be his third trip in five years.
The trip is not through Hasting High School, instead it is through EF Tours therefore anyone can go.
“I am just super excited to be able to see all the history and beautiful scenes, Italy is going to be unbelievably amazing,” senior Meagan Reiners said.
Throughout the trip students, teachers and other travelers will be visiting sites like the Parthenon.
The trip is July 17-29, almost two weeks full of fun and adventure.
The trip means more than just a fun time to junior Joe Prickett, it will help him make some big decisions when thinking about his future.
“Just the fact that I get to do something new and full of adventure is awesome. I have never been out of the country and I’m thinking of studying abroad in college so this trip will help me decide whether that would be the right thing to do or not,” Prickett said.
Europe is such a historical place that the trip and tours will be filled with fun facts.
“I have always like history, but learning something from a book doesn’t seem as thrilling or educational as being able to travel and to see the history through my own eyes. It will give me such a better understanding of very thing,” Reiners said.
Throughout the trip the travelers will become very close and for Theoharis seeing the kids having fun and learning is incredible.
“The culture and being able to see all the history and all the extra stuff like hiking up a hill that has an amazing view of the ocean is amazing, but being able to take students and to see them interacting and just enjoying themselves is probably my favorite part of the trip,” Theoharis said.
Being able to see the ancient ruins is not all the travelers get to do. At the end of the trip the travelers also get to take a three day cruise.
“The cruise will be a great part of the trip, it is around the Greek Islands and we will be able to get off the boat for some of the excursions, it will also be very relaxing,” social studies teacher Brian Laux who is also going, said.
Those who have the opportunity to travel to Europe will have a wonderful learning experience and have great stories to tell their family and friends when they get back.
