In spirit of Halloween, Science and Drama Club are teaming up to fill the Hastings High Food Pantry today. The pantry is filled with all types of non-perishable goods used by many students at Hastings High.
The drama and science students plan to meet up today and split up into groups of cars. Then, each group gets a route with a few neighborhoods to go “Trick or Treating.”
The officers of these clubs, including seniors Alyvia Krueger and Angela Vu, came up with the idea last year after noticing a declining supply of goods in the pantry and decided to organize it.
“We will be going door to door asking for canned food, non-perishable food items, and hygiene products instead of candy,” Vu said.
Once their tote bags are filled, they will head back to the high school and sort out what they can use for the pantry.
“Sometimes when we’re out looking for donations we get some candy or snacks that they’re handing out for kids,” Krueger said.
The club members will be able to dress up as whatever they want.
“Overall, we’re just trying to embrace our inner ten-year-olds by dressing up in costumes while also doing something good for our school,” Vu said.
The drama club also benefits by participating in Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat.
“We’ll be promoting the upcoming play, “Still Life with Iris” which will be performed by the drama club,” Krueger said. The play will be performed on the 9th and 10th of this month.
Science club tries to do at least one volunteer service a month so this activity is perfect for October.
“It is just a great community service that makes me feel proud of the clubs I’m president of and the people that are in them,” Krueger said.
