Spooky, scary, silly, or trendy.  No matter what the desire, there is a Halloween costume to fit each one, no matter how difficult it may be to find one.  Everyone has their own special style when it comes to everyone’s favorite holiday, after all, it is the one day a year where you can be whatever you want to be, no questions asked.
The top costumes from last years Halloween were, for adults, characters from Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz, and multiple superhero movies.  For kids, it was the Cookie Monster, and characters from Disney/Pixar’s blockbuster hit, Up.
What will it be this year? Well with America’s obsessions with the new movie The Avengers, superheroes are on the top of the list.  Amongst the cult classic crowd, people can expect to see a whole slug of Jack and Sallys from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas  roaming the streets on October 31, along with many characters from the comedy/horror/musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Even though these movies are over the age of 15, their popularity seems to be on the rise.
The top candy for this years Halloween is, of course, M&M’s, but who would expect any different? Everybody loves M&M’s.  But of course there’s always America’s second favorite Halloween treat, candy corn!
The biggest trend for Halloween decorations are vintage ones.  Yes, vintage! What’s more creepy than a fake skeleton from the 60’s or a freaky face mask from the 30’s? It seems that the older the decoration is, the more macabre it is, so the more fascinated Americans are with it.  So it seems like dear old Grandma was right not to throw away any of your mom’s old Halloween costumes!
And of course, the pumpkins.  Halloween just isn’t Halloween without a jack-o-lantern or six.  But it seems as though the ol’ fashioned cutting and gutting are becoming…obsolete.  The giant carving knives and messes are being replaced by paint and “pumpkin push-ins”.  Pumpkin push-ins are plastic facial features with points on the back, so all you have to do is push it into your pumpkin, and viola! Your pumpkin has a scary face, and there’s no mess! Plus, they can be taken out and rearranged and such, so if you get bored with the current face, you can turn your pumpkin into a larger version of a Mr. Potato Head.
