Upperclassmen this year are aware of the routes they would recommend choosing due to them having chosen their own. With junior and senior’s advice, freshmen can be more attentive in the classes and activities of their choosing.
Bessy Gomez Lara, a senior, wakes up early in the morning for band practice. Although her extracurricular activities keep her busy, she also has lots of freedom as a senior. She believes the benefits of band and color guard keep people included and social.
“(Activities) can provide a lot of scholarships, a lot of opportunities to go to new places, get to socialize with very different groups of people,” Gomez Lara said.
Throughout her high school career, Gomez Lara would say she’s changed for the better. She started out fresh, being straight from middle school and nervous. She’s not as shy as before, and she has gotten more involved. She’s made more friends and taken many classes throughout high school to push herself to do better.
Gomez Lara dedicated her high school years to putting time into things that interest her and what her future could bring. She recommends the same for this year’s freshman.
“Don’t take anything that you are not interested in. If you are not interested in it, don’t take (it), there’s no point.” Gomez Lara said.
Gomez, Laura believes that teachers make the biggest impact for student success.
“…the teachers need to have a better understanding with the students, knowing that most of us were really going through a stressful time…like the transition from middle school to high school is a very important time and some teachers may not seem to grasp that. ” Gomez Lara said.
According to Gomez, Laura, the transition from middle school to high school is a very important time in someone’s life.
“Don’t dwell on every single interaction you have with people. Trust me, no one is going to remember what you did your freshman year by the time you are a senior…also make sure you keep tabs on what you do now because it will impact you later,” Gomez Lara said.
