Unless you have been living under a rock or have been in a coma for the past five years, you would know that people all over the world have been using social media sites as a new way to interact with other users on the Internet. Although talking to friends, posting pictures, and expressing feelings are the purposes for social sites, there is a limit to how willing to share a person should be online.
First of all personal and private matters should never be available for the whole world to see. Avoid conversing over a private issue, let alone another person’s. There may not be any rules or laws that forbid it, but if you are not comfortable to talk about it in person then you probably should not post it.
Plans. Although one may think it is necessary for friends and others to know continually about your plans, you are wrong. Unless it is a big and special event that you would like your friends and family to attend then it is acceptable. Also letting the Internet know about your plans will make it available for any unwanted guests to show up and ruin your plans.
Napoleon Bonaparte once said, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” With that phrase in mind, a student should think twice about the photos they post online. Just because you delete it off your profile that does not mean that it will not pop back up to haunt you. In addition, colleges and employers sometimes look through profiles. What would you think would happen if they saw racy, illicit, and inappropriate photos on your profile?
Confessing your true feelings on a certain matter on social media sites can get you into a lot of trouble. Yes, we all may have the right to say what we please, but again there is a limit as to what to say. For example, bad mouthing another student, teacher, or even your boss will cut the axe on whatever relationship you had with them.
Social media has easily become a way for people all over the world to seek entertainment and to interact with friends. But social media has also become an addiction to many. Others focus on their digital devices long enough to never have a real face-to-face conversation.
Rather than telling the five W’s to everyone and beating each other down, stop and take the time to think about the the purpose of social media sites. Social media networking was developed to interact with friends and to get a hint about what occurs in their lives. The best way to use the sites is to not share everything out to the world. Everyone likes a mystery.
