Would you want to put up with crabby and complaining high school students every day? Well that’s what all of the teaches here at HHS have dedicated their lives to doing. Many teachers have their reasons for why they became a teacher and why they teach. Inspirations range from other teachers to world languages.
When Drama Teacher Katie Funkey was a child, she lived in a town so small that the elementary, middle and high school were all in one building. She was encouraged by her parents to do sports but, that didn’t work out.
“I loved being a TA in high school and being able to actually teach lessons to elementary school kids,” Funkey said.
“I got interested in drama when I started going to the school musicals and plays.”
Funkey’s school did not have open periods so the only way to get an easy A was to be a TA.
English teacher Carla Hedstrom went to school here at HHS and was inspired by many of her teachers. The teachers who inspired her were sophomore English teacher Mrs. Honey Lou Bonar, senior English teacher Mr. Ron Kort, and Biology teacher Mr. Rod Epp.
“My teachers were my inspiration.”
Spanish teacher Jean Davis loves working with high schoolers and teaching them a different language. She knew that she always wanted to be a high school teacher and work with high schoolers.
“I feel that when someone learns a new language it builds bridges,” Davis said
Davis feels it is important to share what she knows about the language, but also to be an important person in their lives.
“I love telling kids that I care about them and that I care about them learning Spanish.”
Teachers here at HHS love their job and working with the students. Sure they could wonder why they ever signed up to be a high school teacher but in the end it pays off.
