Walking around, you spot people wearing outfits that are similar to those of the famous comedian Adam Sandler, and it is not just a few. The same goes for the other students around you. You wonder what week it is. It is Spirit Week.
Now with the new themes of spirit week revealed, why should you actually dress up and show spirit for your school? For starters, you get to show your school spirit alongside everyone else who dresses up. It is also perfect for setting the mood before HOCO and dress shopping.
You as well support the school atmosphere by showing your school spirit, but you also show other competing schools the spirit of Hastings Senior High at the football game before homecoming, the “main school event” during the first semester.
You, as well, can gain some confidence and feel an overall mood improvement when you see your peers also dressing up and going all out. Spirit Week also has an array of different themes, like “On Wednesdays we wear pink!” referencing the popular movie and musical Mean Girls. If pink does not suit your tastes, you can also dress for Twinning Tuesday, Music Monday, Country vs. Country Club, or even as popular comedian Adam Sandler. Variety is another reason to join because you can express yourself in your own way when showing what bands you like.
Finally, participating in Spirit Week might not only bring you joy. It can foster community spirit and bonding. Students who dress up can join a group photo alongside friends and other students, making for a memorable moment. Though some might think the school is a small community, it is still important to have a big spirit and pride.
Overall, there are plenty of reasons why students should participate in Spirit Week. From dressing up in something new and social interactions to community bonding, everything about Spirit Week is important for students and the community they are representing.
