So far Hastings high has had its ups and downs with its winter athletics.
The Hastings High men’s and women’s basketball team are off to a rocky start this season with losses to Seward and Elkhorn South. Head coach Lance Creech said in an interview that he expects the team to do well over the duration of the season but he didn’t think they would be off to a shooting start.
With one of the best finishes since the 80’s, the Hastings High wrestling team finished in third place overall at the Kearney High Invitational behind the defending state champions Grand Island and the always tough Kearney High. The team had three champions in Brandon Kile at 113 lbs, Nolan laux at 120 lbs, and Huy Truong at 152 lbs. Head coach Brian Laux anticipates a strong year out of the Tiger wrestlers and hopes to see a good number make it to the state tournament.
The Tiger swim team finished fourth at the 2013 Hastings Tiger Invitational with a score of 182. The tournament was filled with teams that are in the same district as the Hastings Tigers. So, the Tiger swimming team is off to a good start, with Tim Thies placing second in the 100-yard freestyle, Johann Vizoso-Marino placing second in the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard butterfly. So, expect some big things to be done by the Tiger swim team this year.
