Hastings High winter sports seasons are almost coming to an end. Bowling having districts Tuesday January 31, wrestling having districts February 11, girls basketball districts February 21, boys varsity districts February 22 and swimming state is February 24.
Boys basketball has a record of 8-8. In district B-6 the boys are 2nd with a 0-1 record with a percentage of performance of 0.462. The girls have a record of 3-13. The girls are also 2nd in district B-6 with a record of 0-1 and a percentage of performance of 0.214.
“I would say it is going pretty well. We are in a good spot going into the last part of the regular season and we will be in a good spot when sub-districts start. We also are all healthy with no injuries which is good at this part of the season,“ junior Braydon Power said.
Girls swimming has a record of 1-2. Being 12th in class A and having a 0-2 record. They won first in one meet and second in another meet. The boys have a record 2-1. They are 14th in class A and have a record of 1-0. Winning first place in one meet so far.
“We are doing really good I did not have very high hopes for this season but I’m very impressed by all of the people swimming we have a good shot this weekend to make our way to medley relay cut and if we do we will be going to state for all three release, “ senior Max Faris said.
Girls’ bowling has a record of 17-7 and is rated 2nd in class B. Haylie Colwell earned all-tournament in three tournaments and Winter Martin won twice. Winter Martin was the tournament champion and will go to state for singles. Boys bowling has a record of 10-12. Junior Ethan Crecelius has the top average at 181 and senior Richard Jarosik has an average of 168.
“The season has been great and it’s super fun with everyone. It feels really short but with the team, it makes everything entertaining,” Junior Kailyn Schafer said.
Boys wrestling has a record of 15-4. Braidon Kort leads with the most pins having 21. Elijah Johson leads with the most near fall. Weidner also has a winning percentage of 100. The girl’s team is co-opt with Adam Central. The three tigers that wrestle from Hastings High are junior Esmeralda Aguirre who has a record of 13-13, freshman Jennifer Lopez with a 9-6 record and
Ashlin George, is out for the season on an injury, but started the season with a 1-0 record.
“My team has made such a great change and we have achieved so much and it makes me so happy that a sport can bring you closer to people you knew as strangers at first. My team has come so far and I am proud of them,” Esmeralda Aguirre said.
