As several Hastings High Seniors close their chapter at Hastings High, they open new opportunities in their lives. Signing day is a big milestone for high school seniors going on to compete at the collegiate level.
Hastings High has several students who will go on to compete at the collegiate level. This opportunity exists at many levels, Division One, Division Two, and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Three students will be staying home and competing at Hastings College on the soccer team: Jose Mares Campos, Aaron Guzman Garcia, and Alex Amaya.
Guzman and Amaya both say they are excited to reunite with former teammates from soccer at Hastings Senior High.
“I’m thrilled to be playing soccer at Hastings College, and am happy to be a part of such a great team,” Guzman said.
Also on the soccer team at Hastings High is Aden Riley, who will be attending SUNY Clinton College in Plattsburgh, New York.
“Looking back, signing was a different type of experience. It felt like one of those moments where you realize all the sacrifices you made actually paid off,” Riley said. “It felt great to officially close one chapter and know exactly where I’m headed, which honestly allowed me to really enjoy the rest of my senior year.”
Dominic Montey will be playing baseball at McPherson, an NAIA institution, and is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
“This is a great opportunity to keep my athletic career going,“ Montey said. “It is worth all the hard work at the end of the day. I will be a little nervous at first, but it will be fun.”
Lastly, senior Brooke Ochsner will be signing with the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) to play softball. She has been a part of the Hastings High team for all four years and was a part of the team that played in the state championship in the 2024-2025 season.
“I feel very excited to start a new chapter in my life and continue my softball career at UNK,” Ochsner said.
